Max Langridge writes: Back in 1995, the annual What Hi-Fi? Awards issue declared that it might just be the last year that we had a turntable category, such was the move away from vinyl towards digital and the CDs… How wrong we were. The vinyl resurgence has seen vinyl sales hit a 20-year high, with 1.3 […]
VPI was the only mainstream manufacturer for years, now we have 12 inch arms from Kuzma, Schroder, SME, Consonance, Brinkman to name a few. Why is this?? fad or long term. Would a 12ich Grahham, Triplaner or Basis be a better sounding product? 128 opinions HERE
I would like to upgrade the modest Akito I have on my LP12 and would like a Unipivot. Clearly, the Naim Aro is a great arm, but I am loathed to pay £1300+ on ebay for an arm that I can remember retailing at £650 new when it first came out. Two arms that have […]
Many will remember the British Leyland Motor Corporation, the nineteen seventies state owned purveyor of such automotive design masterpieces as the Morris Marina and Austin Allegro. Basically, I’ve decided to buy a Rega turntable and am torn between purchasing a new RP6 and a (slightly) used P5 being sold online by an authorized Rega dealer. The P5 can be had for $850 or $1,100 including the power supply unit upgrade. The turntable already has upgraded interconnects, Cardas solid core OFC I’m […]
J. Gordon Holt writes ….. Bill Firebaugh’s first product, the outrageous-looking Well-Tempered (tone) Arm, established him as one of audio’s most innovative designers. At the 1985 Winter CES, he showed a prototype companion product—the Well-Tempered Turntable—and was producing production units by January 1987. He discusses here the WTT’s unusual design features. (Readers should note that, […]
