The AMG review is I feel a little harsh. I’d give it 3 stars to their 2. I wouldn’t have bought it normally. However Fopp are selling the first 5 Mountain CDs as a bundle for £15.00. so £3.00 for a so-so CD isn’t too bad.

The following goes totally against my engineering “if you can’t measure it, it isn’t there” outlook but I’ve just bought two 3 meter lengths of CHORD RUMOUR 2 and using the same terminations (taken off the previous cable) and using the […]
So I’ve recently found myself in the early stages of a newly formed ‘relationship’. It’s definitely not just in my head as I pinned him up against a wall in a street at 5 o’clock in the morning and demanded that he say it out loud that we were in this relationship. There may have […]
What a talent. Entirely live. No lip-synch or technology here. All of today’s manufactured female singers can’t compare to this. MORE
An enthusiast writes: At the moment I can’t think of anything more sublime in the field of chamber music than Mozart’s output; the string quintets is surely the summit (K593!!!), closely followed by the Piano Trios, the String Quartets, and the 2 Piano Quartets. However, I am preparing to delve into Haydn’s output. I […]

Radio 3 has announced a new, large-scale recording project that will allow listeners to hear the music of five “forgotten” women composers for the first time in decades. All five women enjoyed some recognition for music-making during their lives, but their achievements were often downplayed during their lifetimes, and in some cases forgotten after their […]
Paul McGowan We relate to collections of words because their meaning often generates empathy encouraging emotion: a smile for the happy ending, sadness at the loss of a friend. Music too can evoke emotion: inspiration from Stars and Stripes Forever, melancholy to Moonlight Sonata, a laugh from Yankee Doodle Dandy. But how? How do collections of […]
Scientists are trying to understand how amnesiacs can lose all memory of their past life – and yet remember music. The answer may be that musical memories are stored in a special part of the brain. When British conductor and musician Clive Wearing contracted a brain infection in 1985 he was left with a memory […]

“Let’s start with the simplest of systems, a two-channel music system. Typically, the components are placed on top of each other or stacked on the shelves of an audio component rack. This is perfectly fine as long as there is enough ventilation between the components – many components have ventilation slats on the top of […]

I’ve recently downsized my system quite considerably to put money into property and I’m left with a Resolution Audio Opus 21 CD player and a Leben CS600 integrated amp as the basis of a system. I’ve sold my Living Voice OBX-RWs and need to buy something to replace them. My room is 12 x 14 […]
“Tom Petty & Heartbreakers, who toured as Bob Dylan’s backing band from 1986 to ’87, learned ‘a kind of courage we never had’ through playing with Dylan. “I learned so much from Bob Dylan,” says Tom Petty. The Heartbreakers toured as Dylan’s backing band from 1986 to 87. “He gave us a kind of courage […]
“It used to be the collector’s dream – charity shops where ill-informed staff sold first editions and rare records for pennies. But one lucky Oxfam shop’s handling of a major donation shows how things have changed. It was a quiet afternoon in the Oxfam Shop in Great Yarmouth in the autumn of 2005. Most days […]
“We are sometimes asked our opinion of exotic power cords, and have met more than a few people who have laid out some serious investment to have what they see as the very best sort of cord running from the wall socket to the IEC socket on the back of a power amp or CD […]
This was THE top-of-the-line stereo receiver from Yamaha. This receiver just trounces the famous Marantz receivers. I know, because I had two Marantz receivers. This is a fantastic sounding receiver, bar none. The only reason I am selling this is to upgrade to a Krell receiver at about 4 times the price. In addition to […]
Recently upgraded speakers to B&W 804s and want to upgrade speaker cables. B&W has ability to be bi-wired or to use their supplied jumper at the speaker terminals. What is the adjantage of a bi-wired cable vs a single termination and use of B&W jumpers. I am looking at a used set of Volcanos with […]
