John said nothing - it was entirely Paul’s work; it made him cringe when a pianist would strike up Yesterday when he walked into a restaurant.
There is a tiny story though; Paul recalled that he dreamt the tune and when he woke up, he found the chords on the piano in his room and thought it was an old song that his father had played him once.
He went to John and asked him if he knew the tune and John told him no. So, John sort of had a tiny role in the song’s birth.
