STEELY DAN: Southland (2CD)

Steely Dan is considered one of the greatest bands to come out of America over the last forty years. The band recorded seven albums between 1972 and 1980 before going on hiatus for twenty years. These two concerts come from a period when the band were at the point of headlining  their own concerts but shortly after these concerts the band decided to concentrate on studio recordings rather than concert performances. These concerts would be amongst the final live shows from Steely Dan for almost twenty years. They include the hit singles Do It Again, Reelin’ In The Years and Rikki Don’t Lose That Number and also key album tracks including Pretzel Logic.

Steely Dan still release albums and tour with the band’s most recent album Everything Must Go being released in 2003 and the band’s most recent tour coming in 2014. These recordings however come from a period when Steely Dan was still considered a working band, rather than Walter Becker and Donald Fagen backed up by a series of highly paid and highly accomplished session musicians and, whilst a little rough around the edges, it is easy to see why Steely Dan were considered at the time of these broadcasts one of the best bands to come out of America. This package contains two live performances recorded for Radio from Steely Dan from March 1974
