Agreed, superb treatment of the old Supremes hit. There are many versions by Vanilla Fudge – seems like they built a career reworking the song. The original album version was listed at 7.20 long, with re-recordings disappointingly leaving out a verse or two. Love Carmine Appice’s drumming performance on this video!
That’s because at 7 plus minutes the album track was too long for tv shows. Atlantic edited it for a single. The band edited a version for the Ed Sullivan Show in ’68 and another for the Jimmy Fallon Show in 2011.
