BOSE: Are older Bose speakers worth buying?

I used to represent a company. They were wonderful.

The products are very cheaply made at any price level. Resale value should be very tiny. Let me give you an example: for $500 in the United States, you can buy a pair of Elac stand mount loudspeakers that would sound better than anything Bose has ever made, ever. Why bother buying something used it wasn’t great to start with?

I loved the company and I loved the people and they were very good to me with the product is for a non-demanding user. Brand new, it’s a lifestyle. Used, pointless.

I’d say no way. Just last week, a friend who repairs audio was asked to refurbish the 901 EQ box and then test the speakers. These were Series 2. We set them up in a proper location and had some serious audiophile gear running them. They sounded awful! As bad as they did when they came out. His Rogers Studio 1a and Mirage 290 speakers ate their lunch.

If you want to buy vintage speakers, you can do much better for a lot less.

Bose has their own "vision" on what audio should be like. It is a very interesting one and it has a few good points.

I myself do not like Bose or most of the way they approach audio reproduction. But a lot of people like them.

In audio, if it sounds good to you, you should buy it. It is you who is going to listen to music.

So, what ever people tell you, remember, it is all about you and what you expect from an audio system. Do not buy audio according to other peoples perception on what is good or not for them. Everyone listens differently. If you get a musician, an audio engineer, a loudspeaker manufacturer and a "common" person in a room and ask them to listen to a pair of speakers, they all will have a different view on the mater.

Buy what sounds good to you. That is all.
