The soul veteran Bobby Womack died in June this year, aged 70, after health problems that included cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Frankly, reading his smart, punchy autobiography, it’s a wonder he lived as long as he did. He opens dramatically with a story of being shot by his first wife (his mentor Sam Cooke’s widow) after she caught him in bed with their teenage stepdaughter.
