TOSHIKO AKIYOSHI: The Art Of Becoming A Jazz Musician

Since 1956, when she first appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival, Toshiko Akiyoshi has been a significant force in the jazz world, both as pianist and composer. She was the first woman to win DownBeat magazine's Best Arranger/Composer poll category. The New York Times called her "perhaps the most physically articulate conductor since Duke Ellington." Her work has garnered fourteen Grammy award nominations.
