AC/DC: Running For Home – The Lost Sydney Broadcast – 1977 (CD)

LOST BROADCAST RECORDING FROM THE BAND’S HOMETOWN IN 1977

By 1977, AC/DC were taking their first steps onto the international stage. The previous year had seen the release of their first two international albums: High Voltage - a compilation of tracks from their first two Australia-only releases - and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Although the former was received somewhat tepidly, Dirty Deeds was a tremendous success and received multiple certifications worldwide, going Platinum in Germany, Silver in the UK, and 6 x Platinum in the U.S.

In support of Dirty Deeds, the band set out on a mammoth tour across Australia and Europe, eventually moving on to the U.S. for the first time. AC/DC would play a staggering 147 shows in ’77 alone, concluding in Pittsburgh, PA on 21st December. The performance included here is from the initial leg of the tour, captured in the group’s home city at The Haymarket, Sydney on 30th January. Broadcast in superb audio quality over FM radio, and including such early hits as ‘Dirty Deeds Done Cheap’, ‘Rocker’, ‘High Voltage’ and ‘Live Wire’, this set serves as a fascinating example of a rock institution on the cusp of superstardom.
