EMMYLOU HARRIS: The Cincinnati Kid (CD)

We are told .....

EXTRAORDINARY 1985 PERFORMANCE FROM THE QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC

An enormously gifted interpreter of the songs of others, Emmylou Harris has perhaps the finest taste in all of country music when it comes to selecting the best tunes. There have however been a number of occasions throughout this Southern belle s career - now heading towards its 50 year anniversary - when the lady s own song writing skills have come to the fore. In anticipation of the release of The Ballad of Sally Rose, in May 85, Emmylou Harris took to the road, touring the United States with her nine-piece band.

The group was comprised of many big names from the world of American country and bluegrass, including guitar and banjo player Barry Tashian, former Doobie Brothers drummer Keith Knudsen, and vocal duo Mary Ann Kennedy and Pam Rose. On 22nd March, Emmylou Harris played the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio, a show recorded for FM radio broadcast. Containing several tracks from her latest release alongside a host of favourites from previous albums, this recording demonstrates the country songbird at her very best, and will prove a welcome addition to the collection of any Emmylou Harris fan.
