COUNTERFEIT: Audiophile equipment; fact or fiction?

Heard an interesting tale. Apparently there are now counterfeit SME arms being offered on the market. They have no serial number, and also some Chinese writing (oops!) in the box. If this is true should we be flattered? After all, fraudsters usually concentrate on stuff loved by joe-public (Rolex Watches etc). If analogue has made it into this world (making a fake SME would be quite a task I imagine, and not so cheap) should we be flattered? And , again, if true, are there any other 'fakes' on the market? (Cables would perhaps be easiest, for obvious reasons). How about fake Koetsus?  Sometimes, being obscure and unloved as a hobby might have advantages.
