JOHN COLTRANE: Düsseldorf. March 28th 1960 (Limited 140g Vinyl LP)

This 1960s set recorded live in Dusseldorf capture the evolution of John Coltrane’s journey from sideman to bandleader. Coltrane was unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight when Miles Davis was unable play that day. It’s basically a performance of the Miles Davis Quintet without Davis. The lineup includes Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. This European tour was billed as “Norman Granz’s Jazz at the Philharmonic Presents Jazz Winners of 1960.” Two of the other “Jazz Winners” were Stan Getz and Oscar Peterson, both of whom join Coltrane and the band near the end of the Dusseldorf.

Audiophile Clear Vinyl is made using the highest quality co-polymer available and processed without any carbon additive in order to dramatically reduce the “electrical distortion” often found on records.

By itself the co-polymer of vinyl is transparent. In order to make the record black in color the plant must use a carbon additive with trace metals that can become magnetized. This is what causes electrical distortion during playback. That is the reason why we choose to offer our records in the following manner:

  • Audiophile Clear Vinyl (ACV)
  • 140gr
  • 25 minutes maximum per side
