KRELL: KSA-80, preamps and related issues

"Yes, I second that. I've had several krells, including the original ksa 50,and they seem to need a big meaty preamp drive. Passives become lethargic and 'pale'. A good, but not necessarily expensive, valve preamp is your best bet. In an ideal world something like a nicely serviced Audio Research SP11. But something much cheaper, like the CJ PV10 will do a sterling job too. I like the old Krells a lot, but has yours been serviced? They run very hot and will deteriorate over the years without a little love and care (like the rest of us!"
