NILS LOFGREN: Live At The Town & Country Club, London (DVD)

For over 40 years Nils Lofgren has been playing and performing with some of the biggest names in music including Neil Young, Ringo Starr and of course Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. A multi-talented musician and songwriter, this sell-out concert recorded at London’s Town and Country Club sees Lofgren at his very best performing much of his own material including Secrets In The Street, Keith Don’t Go and I Came To Dance.

After 10 years of studying classical music and jazz, the now 15 year old turned his attention to rock music, quickly mastering the piano and guitar. Lofgren turned professional at 17 and cut his teeth performing with numerous bands in the D.C. area including Crystal Mesh, The Shot and Paul Dowell & The Dolphins, before coming to the attention of Neil Young. Lofgren joined Young’s band and despite his lack of experience played piano, guitar and provided vocal support on Young’s platinum selling album After The Gold Rush.

Riding the success of his collaboration with Young, Lofgren sealed a recording contract in 1971 with his band Grin, the group producing 4 critically acclaimed albums. He also continued performing with Neil Young most notably on the Tonight’s The Night album and also a short stint as a member of Crazy Horse. In 1975 Lofgren went solo, releasing his self-titled debut album that was roundly applauded by fans and critics alike but his follow-up albums failed to hit the same heights. Opportunity came knocking when in 1984 Lofgren joined Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, replacing Steven Van Zandt on vocals and guitar. The timing was perfect as the band was about to embark on the hugely successful Born In The U.S.A Tour, a tour that grossed between $80-90 million.

For the next 20 years Lofgren performed and tour sporadically with Springsteen and the E Street Band including The Tunnel Of Love Express (1988), the Reunion Tour in 1999, The Rising (2002-03), Magic album and tour in 2007-08 and the Working On A Dream Tour in 2009."
