    I think there are very special reasons why live music sounds ‘live’ concerning the interaction of the sources with the room resonances and, if the music is amplified, acoustic feedback into mics and strings. Two speaker hi fi does a pretty miraculous job of getting reasonably close. If the recording features a high level of room ambience, and that ambience is compatible with your own room’s, it can be pretty convincing. Try this track:

    My speakers are very large, and this track, to me, can sound ‘live’ even from outside the room. However, it is essential for the bass to go all the way down, I think.
