Paul Rigby writes .....

The new MHA150 is handcrafted in McIntosh’s Binghamton (NY) factory and uses a second-generation DAC, capable of supporting DSD and DXD files

Containing McIntosh’s proprietary Autoformer technology, it has been adapted to produce three headphone impedance ranges, so that any connected headphone can be supported while additional 50W speaker outputs allow the connection of compact loudspeakers. Support is also offered to smartphones, tablets and laptops via USB. Two additional digital connections are available. The add-on streamer, the McIntosh MB50, I can be purchased separately.

For DSD and DXD files, the MHA150’s USB input accepts PCM signals up to 32bit/384kHz and supports DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 along with DXD 352.8kHz and DXD 384kHz. For connecting digital devices, optical and coaxial inputs are included, along with the USB and MCT inputs (for McIntosh SACD players); two analogue inputs are also available.

McIntosh’s proprietary Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD) can also be selected while the patented Power Guard technology is also included to prevent harmful clipping damaging headphones or speakers. A five-step Bass Boost Control allows for further sound customisation.
