Stereonow asked the question: Headphones – and the public responded

Well, actually 8 responded so far.

Here's the question:

Given that most people listen to music in the home on their own, would you agree that a really good pair of headphones (say £375 +) is greater value for money than a stand-alone systems at many times that price?

Here are the first 8 comments - uncensored, of course.

1.    Usual argument, headphones don't do stereo so no way to compare. Buy fish 'n chips instead    (Thu, Jul 1, 2010 4:37 PM)

2.    new 160gb ipod plus decent cans is all a lot of people need but its not for me - I need to feel the music fill the room not ma heid    (Thu, Jul 1, 2010 2:16 PM)

3.    Good for monitoring and diagnosis but don't create the same experience    (Thu, Jul 1, 2010 12:18 PM)

4.    Very different experiences, so not really comparable    (Thu, Jul 1, 2010 11:41 AM)

5.    But I prefer loudspeakers    (Thu, Jul 1, 2010 11:23 AM)

6.    Tough one HP - sometimes I like to crank up the volume on my 'speakers, which I couldn't do in the same way with 'phones...that said, I'm sure a top pair of STAX earspeakers would soon convert me!    (Wed, Jun 30, 2010 9:21 PM)

7.    I don't think £375 is a VFM price for headphones!    (Wed, Jun 30, 2010 5:54 PM)

8.    Not quite an agree vs disagree choice for me. Headphones are excellent but no substitute for a system. (Wed, Jun 30, 2010 5:08 PM)
